"I've never met a true angler who is not by nature at least a somewhat hopeful person."
Charles Gauvin
February1-12, 2012
Skip work (just kidding), find any excuse possible and go ice fishing. To say that reports have been good is an understatement. Ice conditions are sloppy but the ice is still safe in N.E. Iowa. Played around with a Vexilar this past weekend. Very addicting piece of fishing hardware. Your fishing knowledge increases rapidly when using that equipment. Bottom line you should take advantage of the nice winter and fish as much as possible. Weather forecast for February predict a warmer than normal month until the Oscillation thing that is giving us the mild weather changes it's pattern. (Oscillation now heading back to warmer segment again) The UIR is incredibly low. I believe it is at a record low level. I hope we have a normal spring of precipitation to at least get back towards normal flow. Low water is very susceptible to water pollution events. The solution to pollution is dilution and low water does not allow for dilution. Overall great opportunities abound in January for the outdoor water recreation enthusiast.
Winter Trout Fishing is a blank canvas! USUALLY

February News
2006 was the last time we had a winter like this and wouldn't you know I cant remember if I caught fish or not. This is a great opportunity this month to fish. Everything will be in play. Mild weather makes for fun times. Open water in the Mississippi River near the dams, Upper Iowa, Trout Streams, Ice fishing. If you come to N.E. Iowa you will find opportunities to fish. Great beauty, people and places to recreate.
OUR MISSION
This site is dedicated to providing timely information regarding fishing and water recreation in Winneshiek County and surrounding areas.
